February KAL!

So I've been without Internet for over a week now and I apologize. We're living out of boxes and I still haven't moved everything over yet. I'm also slowly building furniture here and there and starting to organize our lives again. Throw in a stomach flu and ear infections, I'm sure you can imagine the week we've been having. Everyone is feeling better and we finally went out this morning to play in the snow. It was a nice break from being cooped up in the house for days.

As soon as I locate my camera's battery charger from whichever box it's hiding in, I will take some shots of the finished January Cloth from the KAL and post up the entire pattern in a blog post. It should help if anyone missed it or just wanted to knit it again without searching through the posts to grab all the clues.

February 2010:

Supplies:
  • 1 Ball of Lily's Sugar'n Cream Solid
I used 00046: Rose Pink (Pink), but you can use any color you wish. A light to medium green, blue or purple would go well also.
  • US #3/3.25mm needles*
  • Tapestry Needle *I used a smaller needle size to obtain denser fabric and to make the picture stand out more.

Finished Measurements : Approx. 10"x10"

Pattern:

co 47s

(k1, p1) to last stitch, k1 repeat for 6 rows

row 1: "and all odd rows" (k1,p1) 2x, K to last 4s, (p1,k1)

row 2: (k1,p1)2x, p23, k1, p10, k1, p4, (p1,k1)2x
row 4: (k1,p1)2x, p7, k1, p14, k3, p6, k1, p2, k2, p3, (p1,k1)2x
row 6: (k1,p1)2x, p6, k3, p5, k1, p8, k1, p6, k2, p1, k1, p5, (p1,k1)2x
row 8: (k1,p1)2x, p7, k1, p5, k3, p8, k2, p6, k2, p5, (p1,k1)2x
row 10: (k1,p1)2x, p3, k1, p2, k1, p7, k1, p11, k2, p3, k2, p6, (p1,k1)2x

Thoroughly loved the January KAL and am looking forward to knitting February's as well.

I'm sure I speak for many when I say that volunteering to do a KAL a month is a huge undertaking. I really appreciate your generosity and appreciate the investment of time that this is taking. I can't imagine juggling this with a move and 2 small kids. So, just wanted to say thank you, once again.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I can't say enough about all of your designs! I did the January KAL, gave it to my friend, and she just loved it. I am really looking forward to the February KAL. Don't even get me started on that WONDERFUL Thermis pattern. I gave them as gifts, and they were such a hit. Probably one of my favorite things to knit. Thanks again!! Rita

I've looked every day, waiting for the new KAL. And at the same time, not really expecting one this month since it sounds like you've had your hands more than full. And that would have been okay.

The Jan. KAL was my first and was much fun. Will start this one in a few minutes. Be sure to take a little time for yourself. Thank you for doing this.

And, pritabee is right--Thermis is wonderful. I've made two and my daughters love them.

This will be my first KAL! I am so excited! I am so glad you and your family are feeling better and hope you get moved in and rested soon!

YAY! I still need to finish January's, though. :-/

Just a thought: I just started a WordPress blog, and it has the option to write entries, but schedule them for posting at a later date. Does Blogger do that? You could set up all the KAL posts ahead of time, and schedule them to release a week apart (or whatever time frame)...

Good luck with unpacking!

I really enjoyed the January one and have now done the rows for February so far. I can't wait to see how it turns out! Thank you for taking the time to do this!!!

Thanks for this one! I thought, too, that you'd skip this month as you have enough to do in real life! Everyone would have understood. Can't wait to start, yarn is waiting in my drawer!

I love the January project and have now started on this new February cloth. After carefully following your tips on washing/blocking, my January cloth looks lovely. Last night I decided I'm going to save each month's cloth and make a package of 12 cloths to give as a gift at Christmas. Of course, this means I'll be making two cloths each month because I selfishly want a set for myself, too.

Thank you so much for this fun year-long KAL. I know you've been really pressed for time due to your move, but we all appreciate it.

Laura said...

what size needles does everyone use? I know Kris recommends size 3, but they are hard to find! What size is your favorite for making these cloths? Thanks!

Laura said...

I have another question...does blocking really make a difference? Do you do it after each wash? Because won't throwing it in the washer and dryer undo the original blocking?

Started feb kal. Was looking forward to "seeing" what it was going to be. I see one person somehow finished it before all clues given and put up pic on raverly. Still looking forward to seeing my own design develop.
Thank you for hosting these kal's.

No one has posted a picture of the finished February cloth...

Laura, I use 3's. The Walmart near me doesn't carry many larger gauge ones so actually they were easiest to find. I did end up with the longer ones though.

I don't block something like this but it makes a big difference when making something you sew together like a sweater or patchwork blanket.
